The Baltics consist of Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia and every year all three countries enjoy a vast amount of tourism and immigration alike. As more people look abroad for a better way of life, it is places like the Baltics which are becoming popular; popular due to their great lifestyle, value for money on property and the weather and scenery.
One thing to consider greatly however is that when it comes to buying property in the Baltics, whichever country you go for, make sure you view the property before you buy it. It’s all well and good looking online and thinking a property is perfect, but truth is, if you then buy it and there are problems or things wrong with the property, then you have nobody to blame but yourself. Buying blind is a big risk and one that rarely gets done without something going wrong.
Whichever Baltic country you have your eyes on, arranging a viewing trip for a few days, a week if possible, and look at as many properties as you can, taking notes on each as you go. It also helps if you take pictures of each property so that you can remind yourself of them and not get two confused with each other.
Remember what you want in a property, what you are looking for and the needs that your property must meet and try to stick closely to this list. It is very easy to get overcome with excitement and overlook things that a property lacks because you are so excited about it.
If you are looking at working in the Baltics then it might be a good idea to have a look and a chat to local job agencies whilst you are there and perhaps hand your CV to a few people. It is always a weight off your mind if you can have a job offer before you arrive in your new country, as it saves the worry of finding one when you get there.
Don’t forget to have fun when looking at properties in the Baltics. It should be an enjoyable experience but at the same time should be approached with care and you should ask all the same questions you would if you were buying a property in the UK, and try to go with an open mind. Be open to different properties as something you might not choose immediately could be the one you fall in love with. If the agent suggests a property to you then you don’t have anything to lose by at least going to have a look around. Something which is not your ‘usual type’ or ‘ideal’ home could turn out to be the perfect place for you.
